June 30th - 11am to 2pm
Despite busy summer schedules, a date has been set for our picketing campaign against any "Big Box" construction on the site of the current Charlestown Café. Ideally, I think we all agree that we would like the Charlestown Café to remain and hope to have some impact on how that space is developed that suits both the community and the owner.
We will walk the sidewalks between Charlestown St. and Brandon St. on California from 11am to 2pm , June 30th, so bring your signs, wear your walking shoes and let's make this cause more visible to our fellow West Seattleites.
We will be working to have the media there and will also have an informational table set up. Please remember that the Charlestown Café will be open for business that day so we should NOT park in the café parking lot, nor hinder access to the café in anyway.
Suggestions are welcome and anybody who is interested in helping in anyway to pull this off, please email me at kirstenwhittemore@...
The following are some suggestions I got off the internet for how to make an effective picketing sign.
- Use neat 3" tall dark letters on light background. This can be done easily by creating it on an 8.5x11 paper format on your computer and then having it professionally blown up on heavy card stock paper so that the letters end up 3" tall and are legible from a distance.
- Paste 2' piece of doweling between two back-to-back signs to create a handle.
- Keep signs simple and easy to read by passing drivers.
