Experimental Music Throwdown with M.C. Schmidt (Matmos) and John Berndt at Red Room this Saturday
- The Red Room presents a premier in Baltimore electro-acoustic music:
M.C. Schmidt (Matmos):
synthesizer, electronics, percussion, objects, processing, voice
RhythmPrisim, Shadow, Guitar, Polygon, Objects, Percussion, Saxophone, Tapes
M.C. Schmidt and John Berndt only agree on 50% of everything but they have a lot in common: both ridiculously multi-vectored autodidacts, experimental obsessives, big talkers and wind up artists, multi-instrumentalists, perverse equipment abusers, and lovers of the power of disorienting and overwhelming aesthetic delirium. They have never played together before this week but in many ways, their approaches to creative activity are strangely complementary.
After a year of talking about it, they are finally taking each other on in a serious experimental music throw down in two sets of quite varied music, a brutal aesthetic cage match, and at the end, only one will be standing (the other will of course be sitting). Which will be which? Cash bets will be taken at the door in the form of admission fees that will not be returned to anyone.
Come see them improvise (sort of) and play compositions (sort of) together on a bewildering range of instruments and experimental automatons in luxurious Red Room quadraphony! And if that sounds a bit funny, it is only because LANGUAGE IS STILL IN ITS INFANCY.--
