      TUESDAY, October 7th - $6
      8:30pm doors, 9pm show

      Hot off the trail of the wildly successful 10th High Zero Festival, the Red Room dives back into its weekly series by doing something completely out of the ordinary... hosting a show on a Tuesday!

      We are pleased to present:

      Charlotte Hug (Switzerland)
      violin, electronics, and voice

      ++ SOLO performance ++

      ++ in TRIO ++
      with Baltimore musicians:

      Michael Formanek (bass) +
      John Dierker (reeds)

      Charlotte Hug, composer, musician and visual artist, lives in Zurich and "en route". She graduated in Visual Arts and Music and has received several awards, including "artist in residence" in London, Paris, Cork and Berlin. She is well known for her spatial scores and her performances at unusual venues like the caverns of the Rhone Glacier, in the caverns of hot springs in Baden Switzerland, in a half-exploded bunker in Berlin, or in the "house of detention" an underground prison from the 16th century in London.

      Charlotte tries to maximize the amplification of playing techniques. She has, among others, developed the "softbow" and specializes in mixing the sounds of viola and voice. In addition to exhibitions, she performs as a soloist playing her own compositions at important international festivals in Europe, USA and Canada.

      Supported in part by Pro Helvetia and Suisa.

      Michael Formaneks singular approach to the acoustic bass has led to an impressive range of musical associations. During his thirty-plus year career, he has played and/or recorded with Elvis Costello, Tim Berne, Uri Caine, Freddie Hubbard, Stan Getz, Marty Ehrlich, Chet Baker, Tony Williams, Gerry Mulligan, Bob Mintzer, Fred Hersch, Dave Liebman, Joe Henderson, Mark Isham, Toshiko Akiyoshi/Lew Tabackin Big Band, Mingus Big Band, Terumasa Hino, Cedar Walton, Attila Zoller, George Coleman, Jane Ira Bloom, Bob Moses, Gunther Schuller, Peter Erskine, Joe and Matt Maneri, Gary Thomas, Harold Danko, Dave Burrell, and many others.

      Multi-reedman John Dierker has become a major improvisational stylistinterweaving concepts augmented by howling lines, injections of blues-drenched choruses and Albert Ayler-like display of energy." (All About Jazz) A Baltimore, Maryland native Dierker has worked in a wide variety of musical settings collaborating with Peter Zummo, Jason Willett, Jad Fair, and The Basement Boys. John is a longtime member of Lafayette Gilchrist and The New Volcanoes. Currently he is working with Quartet Offensive, Microkingdom, and 3081, a group that includes Michael Formanek, Dave Ballou and Will Redman.

      We hope to see you at this special weeknight event! Our regular Saturday-based schedule will resume starting October 18th. Also, please note that this show is scheduled in lieu of traditional monthly Crap Shoot. The next Crap Shoot will be November 4th.
