The Red Room is proud to present:
"Egg Sucking Dogs"
Cilla Vee (Claire Barratt): Movement
Joe Burgio: Movement
Walter Wright: video and audio synthesizers
A fluid merging of image, sound & movement. A melting of plasticine forms. An esthetic purity out of which immerges the whisper of an unfolding story never to be told. Two bodies mesh inside an illusion. This trio consists of two movement artists Cilla Vee & Joe Burgio with electronic sound & video artist Walter Wright. The three form their collaboration by intuition, suspense & a keen sense of being in the moment.
Walter Wright is a video artist; a member of the Artists League of Lowell; and Director of 119 Gallery. One of the first video animators, he worked at Computer Image Corporation in the 1970's giving life to letters and words for The Electric Company. He was an Associate Director at the Kitchen; then left NYC and joined the Experimental Television Center where he pioneered video performance touring with the Paik/Abe Video Synthesizer. In the 1980's he taught video art, sound art and computer graphics at William James College and at Virginia Commonwealth University. In the 1990's he worked as a software engineer for Truevision. He wrote his own performance video system, the Video Shredder. He moved to Boston then Lowell. For the past several years, he has worked with Joe Burgio, Katt Hernandez and Heather McQuiston, creating multimedia performances that include electronic music, video, and dance.
Joe Burgio (dancer) is an inveterate improviser, a student of post-modern movement forms and a whole-hearted collaborator, producing work with artists in a multiplicity of media. Joe has performed all over the U.S. specializing in venues just barely danceable, has on-going projects with Katt Hernandez and Walter Wright (the detritus inspired Amalgam Trio), Paul Kafka-Gibbons (the discursive dyad Emu), Pamela Martinez (the oneiric and fabric laced Teletextile), Heather McQuiston (Royal Jelly Collective) and upcoming performances with Nicole Bindler, Jessica Newman and Teresa Czepiel. His work in Movement Improvisation is based on study with Debra Bluth, and Butoh with Jennifer Hicks.
Claire Elizabeth Barratt (Cilla Vee) has a Dance and Musical Theater background, with training received in her native country of Britain at the London Studio Center of Performing Arts and the Laban Center for Movement and Dance. She spent ten years in the southern states of Tennessee and North Carolina, where she held the position of Co -Director for Circle Modern Dance as well as choreographing for Opera, Musical Theater, Music Video and Commercials. Now based in New York, she runs Cilla_Vee Movement Projects, a multi-disciplinary performing arts company, performing in the US, Canada, Europe and Japan.
Don't miss this great concert of experimental movement, image, and music!
