Doty Doughty DNA Project

Our goal with the Y-DNA Chromosome marker information, would be to prove our genetic link of how our family spread out and grew, here in North America, and in other countries. Testing is by an independent lab, FTDNA, the results would be posted on their site.

Our Doty project with the variations of the surname, has at the present, 183 members with DNA results. Results and their lineage will be posted on this public website upon the approval of the member.

Testing the Y chromosome (Y-Dna) - The Paternal Dna, passed from father to son, which is only found in males and is useful in verifying common ancestry. Ordering the 37 marker test will provide you a predicted Haplogroup and possibly what "D" family groups you belong in. The 37 markers has proven to be a better test to match other males with your surname, because of the additional markers, some say the more the better.

Testing the mtDNA - The Maternal Dna test is available for both males and females, to uncover information about your mother, and her female ancestors. This will only provide a direct DNA link on the maternal line, (daughter, her mother, her grandmother, etc.)

Haplogroups are large groups of haplotypes that can be used to define genetic populations and are often geographically oriented. A predicted haplogroup would be provided, by FTDNA, but further testing would be required to extend the branch of the tree.

The Family Finder test will give you matches with genetic cousins and also give you ethnicity percentages.
