Experts' opinion: no guarantees, no affinity, no rush.
- Dear List,
It is interesting to read how the "experts" analyse the ROCOR
Gazeta. Ru - Differences in mentality hampers union
According to the experts, following the visit of a ROCOR delegation
to Moscow, the ROCOR has decided to slow down the rapprochement
process. The visit took place one month ago and was the first in
" Apparently, the results of the trip to Moscow by the delegation led
by archbishop Mark are unsatisfactory, said the director of the
Institute for the study of religion in the CIS and Baltic countries,
Nikolay Mitrokhin. Perhaps this is because of a wide difference in
mentality between the MP and the ROCOR representatives.
The ROCOR clergy represent already the second or the third generation
of émigrés to the West or have no Russian roots altogether. It became
clear to them, apparently, that they lack mental affinity with the
present MP clergy"...
Besides, Mitrokhin considers that a certain instability could affect
the situation in Moscow. "At the present time, more than half of the
Sacred Synod permanent members are between life and death, and it is
not clear whether the guarantees that will be given to the ROCOR
today will be kept in five years", the expert stated.
Probably this is in fact the reason why the ROCOR representatives
have decided to wait and see what happens next. "At the level of the
ideas people did probably agree, but at a the practical level, they
have decided to act more circumspectly ", explained Nikolay Mitrohin.
