      RELEASE, 25. 09. 1999.

Spiting In The Face Of The Orthodox Church

PODGORICA, September 23 - The Vice Prime Minister of Montenegrin government Dragisa Burzan received leader of so called and non canonical "Montenegrin Orthodox Church" Miras Dedajic, presented on this occasion as "Metropolitan Mihailo" even this former Orthodox priest was officially excommunicated from the Church by the Ecumenical Patriarchate. During the talks they made a common conclusion that the state is responsible to support this "Church" as well.
Official Montenegrin government press release noted that "Metropolitan Mihail stated that his Church is not treated adequately by the state administration, especially since the Constitution of Montenegro considers all religious groups as equal in front of the state."
The press release stated also that media founded by the State usually do not treat equally all religious groups. For reasons of respect fundamental human rights and freedoms it is needed that state of Montenegro approach differently to the so called "Montenegrin Orthodox Church" in future.

CETINJE, September 25 - His Eminence Metropolitan of Montenegro Amfilohije strongly condemned government policy represented in the meeting that was held two days ago among Montenegrin government vice-Prime Minister Dragisa Burzan and leader of so called "Autocefalus Montenegrin Orthodox Church" presented as metropolitan Mihailo (alias Miras Dedajic). This meeting, said Metropolitan Amfilohije in his open letter to the Montenegrin Prime Minister Filip Vujanovic, "is not just spiting in the face of the Orthodox Church in Montenegro, but spiting in the face of the whole Orthodox Ecumena."
Metropolitan Amfilohije further says: "those who had persecuted the Church with the desire to destroy her yesterday, today are using the trash of the Metropolis of Montenegro in order to build their tribal sect. They are giving the name "Autocephalus Church" to their product, but in order to complete the same aim they had before, now they want to destroy the Church from inside. So, the man who is excommunicated from the Church by the Ecumenical Patriarchate (Miras Dedajic was the priest of the Ecumenical Patriarchate before - note by SYPS), now supported by a few Church and the Moral delinquents now is accepted as the official person and the representative of the Church, instead to be persecuted by the low."
At the letter to the Montenegrin Prime Minister, Metropolitan of Montenegro strongly named those who met with the Miras Dedajic as persons "who want to manipulate the Church for their political purposes, by taking the advantage of their position in the state." He noted that this kind of acts "are sanctifying the ideological and political divisions and by that, they are invoking for the bloody civic war."
Metropolitan Amfilohije also said to Prime Minister Vujanovic in his open letter that we "can not walk on the way to Europe and can not remain in the Europe on the basis of false values. It is neither usual nor normal to see that some of the European leaders receive someone who falsely presents himself as e.g. the Pope or Cardinal, but in our society such political nonsense seems quit usual.
