Read about the oppressive heat wave on the East coast and can relate. Here's
a fast recipe for a protein when it's too hot to cook:

one can Crowder peas or other small beans, drained.
      green onion
      frozen peas
      salad olives
      fasting Italian dressing

Drain the Crowder peas (or other canned beans). Add about half a package of
frozen peas, as is. Chop green onion and add. Stir in enough salad olives
(chopped up green olives with pimentos) to give it color. (No need to salt.)
Add salad dressing and refrigerate until serving time. The peas should
defrost on their own, just from the heat of the day, and because you haven't
cooked them in between, they retain their color and flavor and texture. If
you want to jazz it up with extra oregano, basil, dill or parsley, have at
it. You could also add chopped tomatoes.

Went well with small shell noodles. Half the family stirred it in to make a
pasta salad, the other half put sauce on their noodles and had the side dish
      as a side dish.

Adjust proportions and condiments according to your family's size and tastes.

      Hope this helps!

      In Christ,
      Matushka Ann Lardas
