FYI ROCOR actually owns only *half* of the building in which the Synod
headquarters/Mother of God of the Sign Cathedral is located. The other
half is the residence of somebody who's a high-up in CitiBank or
CitiCorp or something like that. (Or maybe Citgo.)

While I'm sure that guy would just *love* to buy the rest of the
building, I'm skeptical that there would be a plan to sell it, even if
the idea is to merge the ROCOR with the Patriarchal Parishes and use
St. Nicholas as the Cathedral. There's more room there for
administrative offices than at 97th St, if nothing else. The Greek
Orthodox Archdiocese headquartres, for example, is in a different
builing on the other side of Manhattan from the Archdiocesan Cathedral,
Holy Trinity, on the upper East Side.

JRS: The Synod House is half of the historic Baker Mansion.

The half *not* occupied by the Synod, still belongs to the Semenenko family, who donated
the part in which the Synod is housed.

(That's the reason for the sign: "Semenenko Foundation").

This is all easy enough to tell: the "two houses" were obviously once a single building.

There are two large doors at the back of the Synodal cathedral, which do not open and
            appear to be only decorations.

In fact, those doors used to lead from the old ballroom (now the cathedral) to the rest of
the house (where the family still resides).

However, the part of the building now occupied by the Synod, is the part that belongs to
            the Synod.

Just to point out how inaccurate this is - the only Rev Vladimir
Anderson in the US is in our diocese and he has certainly not left
ArchBp Kyrill and joined Bp Agafangel, or anyone else. There is some
speculation amongst our diocesan clergy that there is a different
priest in the area who might have made this move - but clearly whoever
composed this list has faulty information (even though its in Russian
on the internet). If there is one error, might there not be more?

                      Dear sister in Christ, Valentina,

There are 2 Russian Orthodox parishes in St. Louis (ROCOR).

St. Basil's is nearest Washington University and has services in
English. St. Basil's is within walking distance of a Metrolink
station. (electric trains which run past Washington University.) Their
priest, Fr. Martin Swanson also coordinates a fellowship group for
                      Orthodox university students. http://www.stbasilthegreat.org

St. John Chrysostom Church is located in the suburbs and has services
                      in English and Slavonic. http://www.russianorthodox-stl.org

Members of either parish would be glad to help with transportation if
needed. Your god daughter is welcome to contact me if I can be of any

You have two excellent choices. St Basil Orthodox Church in St Louis
with Fr Martin Swanson (MacCausland between Arsenal an Landsdowne) and
St John Chrysostom Orthodox Church with Fr Christopher Stade in House
Spings (SW suburb of St Louis). Wash U also has an active Orthodox
                          Student group on campus.

                            Dear Fr. David,

I beg to disagree with your "certainty" concerning Fr. Vladimir
Anderson of the St. John the Almsgiver parish in California because
he, in fact, has come under Bishop Agafangel. I just spoke to Fr.
Vladimir on the phone, who was surprised that you would post such a
comment, since you did not even contact him for verification. Bishop
Agafangel is accurate and careful in his listing of the priests who
                            have come under him.

I am posting this for Fr. Vladimir, because, as perhaps you are not
aware, he does not have a computer.

Of course, I consider the events of the past several years to be
unfortunate, but I know that there are people of good will on both
sides of the issue, so it is important that exchanges on these
                            issues remain civil, but accurate.

                            Thank you,

I was indeed in error. I did not have a phone number for Fr Vladimir
and he is not on the internet so when I read his name on the list of
clergy, I was quite surprised - since I had not even heard a hint of
his concerns. I contacted his dean (who is also the closest priest to
him geographically) and his dean assured me that Fr Vladimir was still
                              under Archbishop Kyrill of SF.

Fr Vladimir just called me this evening and confirmed to me that he
has indeed sought to go with bishop Agafangel - however he did not
even bother to talk to his own Archbishop or any of his brother clery
in the Western Diocese about his decison. I am greatly grieved and
saddened by his decision to separate himself from his lawful hierarch.
As a favor to him, I am posting this correction of my original error.

clergy, I was quite surprised - since I had not even heard a hint of
his concerns.

Can a priest leave a church just like that? Do he need a release? Mike Orechoff I¹m sure his opinion (which I share) is that he didn¹t ³leave² anything,

I looked at the photos, I believe I saw one "uniate' among the serving clergy but what the HEC your Bishop .. is now now anything goes ... music and and dancing in the church aisles next...
