ARCHDIOCESE OF PITTSBURGH AND WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA
      ANNUAL FALL LECTURE SERIES

The Archdiocese of Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania (OCA) will
host the Annual Fall Lecture Series this year on Thursday, October
21 continuing through Thursday, November 4. The lecture series will
be held at Holy Assumption of St. Mary Orthodox Church, 105 S. 19th
St., Pittsburgh, PA. The lecture series is in honor of the
establishing of America's first monastery, St. Tikhon's Russian
Orthodox Monastery 100 years ago and will focus on The Monastic
      Witness.
The first lecture on Thursday, October 21, will be a team
presentation on the history of monastic life in North America and
the service of tonsuring a monk by two of our Archdiocesan
Monastics, Hieromonk Patrick and Hieromonk David.
The second lecture on Thursday, October 28, will be unique as it
brings a special guest into our midst — His Grace, Bishop TIKHON of
South Canaan, PA, the Deputy Abbot of St. Tikhon's Orthodox
Monastery. The evening will begin with Vespers at 6:30pm and a
short talk on prayer, followed by dinner and an informal
presentation on monastic life at America's first monastery — St.
Tikhon's Russian Orthodox Monastery. There will be a free will
offering for the dinner to benefit St. Tikhon's Russian Orthodox
      Monastery.
The third lecture on Thursday, November 4, will feature another
special guest and noted local speaker, Mother Christophora, Abbess
of Transfiguration Monastery. She will be speaking on the history
of one of our regions greatest treasures and America's first women's
monastery, Transfiguration Orthodox Monastery, in Elwood City.
Please note that Vespers & Small Compline will be served at
6:30pm on each night of the lecture series.
A $15.00 registration donation is requested to help cover the
costs of the lecture series. Registration will be at the door. No
donation is requested for children and students.
