JRS: Here is my English translation of the article that appears in the
      current issue of "Pravoslavnaya Rus":

"THE OLD BELIEVERS ARE PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT SATISFIED WITH
SUPERFICIALITY, FORMALISM: THEY DESIRE TO LOOK DEEPER INTO THE FAITH".

Thus the new primate of the Old Rite Church, Metropolitan Andrian of
Moscow and All Russia, who was elected this past February in place of
the elder-metropolitan Alimpy, after the latter's repose in the Lord,
spoke of the Russian Orthodox Old-Rite Church.

His election took place at a Holy Council of the Russian Orthodox Old-
Rite Church, with the participation of 230 delegates from 156
communities in Russia, the Ukraine, Belarus, Moldavia, Kazakhstan,
      Uzbekistan and Germany.

Metropolitan Andrian (in the world, Alexander Gennadievich Chetvergov)
was born on Feb. 14, 1951, in an old family of Old Believer merchants
in the city of Kazan. Vladyka Andrian's experience as a bishop was
little more than three years, but he already managed to show what an
organizer of church life he is, and he has great authority for his
appreciation for, and ability in, church art and workmanship.

During these several months that he has presided over the Old-Rite
Church, there has been a marked increase of both internal and external
      ecclesiastical activity.

This is to be seen in the revival of a spirit of "sobornost", of
spiritual education, active work, in the broadening of contacts with
      the Moscow Patriarchate.

Metropolitan Andrian has expressed, on more than one occasion, his
support for united Russian Orthodoxy, and has spoken with great respect
for Metropolitan Laurus and the acievements of the Russian Orthodox
      Church Outside Russia.

      By Bro. Alexander, Jordanville, 2004.
