ROCOR Recent Events
- Perhaps these recent events have not been noticed by some:
1) Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America and New York (ROCOR) was
appointed to be a member of the Holy Synod of the Church of Russia
for its winter sessions 2010-2011. This fulfills one of the terms of
the Act of Canonical Communion, by which ROCOR bishops will
participate as members of the Holy Synod in Russia as part of the
rotation. (The Holy Synod, both in the MP and in ROCOR, consists of a
number of permanent members, supplemented by bishops who serve in
2) Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk during his trip to the United
States which concluded August 31, met with Metropolitan Hilarion of
Eastern America at the Synod Headquarters on Park Ave. and 93rd St.
on August 30, where they had a working meeting. Also participating in
that meeting was Protopriest Serafim Gan, Assistant Secretary of the
ROCOR for Inter-Orthodox Relations
3) Later that evening, Metrpolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, together
with Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America, visited St. Seraphim
Church in Sea Cliff, where Protopriest Serafim Gan is Rector. Also
invited to that meeting was His Beatitude, Metropolitan Jonah, The
three Metropolitans held a fraternal meeting which was joined by Fr. Serafim
Gan, Fr. Alexander Garklavs and Fr. Leonid Kishkovsky.
4) Also on August 30, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk met with
Archbishop Demetrios at the Greek Archdiocesan Headquarters in New
York to discuss a wide range of issues concerning the various
jurisdictions in America and the recent Episcopal Assembly.
Participating also in the discussions were Fr. Mark Arey of the Greek
Archdiocese and Fr. Serafim Gan of the ROCOR who accompanied
Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk to the meeting.
