This article, which came out a couple of months ago, has it essentially right. However, they did miss a couple of very important points.
1. President Bush's panel on tax reform was headed by two former senators who have since become well paid lobbyists. Appointing a panel to simplify the tax code and turning it over to aspiring lobbyists is a waste of time and money.
2. The tea party rank and file supports more than just vague tax reform ideas such as limiting the code to the number of pages in the Constitution. In an online poll conducted by the tea party patriots, the FairTax was the #1 issue in terms of support. It outpolled drill here/drill now, a balanced budget amendment, and several dozen other issues by a 2 to 1 margin or more.
