[Mandela's son has been in hospital for quite some time... And he's died
of "pneumonia"... which is often one of the complications that comes from
AIDS. The news story below says: "It is not known what he was suffering
from"... take that as a "secret code" meaning: AIDS. It is amazing how
many high profile people's children and relatives have died from
      "unspecified illnesses"... Jan]

Johannesburg - Former president Nelson Mandela's only surviving son
Makgatho, 54, has died, Highveld stereo radio news reported on Thursday.

Magkakhato had been in a critical condition in the Linksfield hospital
for the past few weeks said Zindzi Mandela, Makgatho's half-sister.

Makgatho, an attorney, was admitted to hospital late in November.

He was part of Standard Bank's legal team and worked as a consultant for
      the group.

He was Mandela's eldest child and only surviving son from his first
marriage to Evelyn Ntoko Mase who died some time ago.

Last year Makgatho Mandela's wife Zondi died of pneumonia.

Makgatho is survived by three sons, Ndaba, 21, Mbuso, 13, and Andile, 11.

It is not known what he was suffering from.

Former president Mandela's only other son, Thembekile, died in a car
accident while Mandela was imprisoned by the apartheid government.

Mandela now has three living children, one from his first marriage and
two from his second marriage to Winnie Madikizela-Mandela whom he
      separated from in 1992.
