      Does this sound familiar?
"The most important cause of hostility to Jews lay in their financial
activities since they monopolized the position of tax collectors and
fiscal officials to the crown and the aristocracy."
And check out the officials of the Inquistiion - they were just about
all Jews.I think the Spanish Inquisition was in large part a
shakedown racket run by Jews and the victims were Jews, Christians
and Moslems. The Meyer Lansky of that day was Torquemada,
a "Converso" Jew. Does it all seem a bit like the case of
Primakov/Finkelstein, the ex-KGB dude who is now a "consultant" for
      our Dept. of Homeland Security?

When heresy first became a problem in the west, the Church was
relatively ill equipped to deal with it. This was because about 500
years had passed since the Roman Empire collapsed in 476 and the west
had to overcome constant invasions and a disrupted economy. Because
of this, one could assume that there was not much time for most
people to consider the Church's beliefs. Small outbreaks of heresy
tended to collapse when their leaders died. Such matters were an
irritant to the Church but they were not serious problems. However
around the year 1000, when the last barbarian invasions ended, the
stability of the Church became threatened when people begin to pursue
speculation and criticism centering on the Church and the beliefs it
held. The Cathars, a radical group, who interpreted the Scriptures in
a manner which clashed with the Church's teachings, believed that
they were the lost sheep of the house of Israel whom Christ had come
to save. When the bishop of Beauvais interrogated them about the
Creation, they replied: 'You may spin stories in that way to those
who have earthly wisdom. To us however, who have the law written upon
the heart by the Holy Spirit, in vain do you spin out the
superfluities and things inconsistent with the divinity'. In response
