Group Description

Health, wealth, produce, the happiness that is the result, and security
These five, the learned say, are the ornaments of a polity.
-Saint Tiruvalluvar

The plight of workers's health and the ecology in the face of corporate onslaught and governmental apathy is terrifying. This alliance plans to keep track of the related developments. It was resolved that a network be formed, which be called Occupational Health India (OHI).

Ban Asbestos Network of India (BANI) is a co-founder of this alliance engaged in raising awareness to ensure ban on manufacture, use, and import of white asbestos or chrysotile. One just wonders as to why asbestos which is deemed cancer causing in some 52 countries considered non-cancerous in India.

The ILOs Occupational Safety and Health Convention, 1981 (No. 155) provides a suitable framework supporting a safety and health culture at work. More than 70 ILO Conventions, Recommendations & 30 Codes of Practice relate to Occupational Health and Safety.

Corporations have mastered the art of supressing the true conditions of workers' occupational health and environment. Government agencies hand in glove with them deal with cases of silicosis, asbestosis and other respiratory illnesses as tuberculosis. These companies and government hospitals use all sorts of tricks to deflect any direct correlation to the specific pollution, toxicity and the health impact.

The civil society groups, trade unions, public health researchers and individuals have joined hands to work as an alliance on Occupational safety, health and environment to respond in an appropriate manner. For details contact: krishna2777@gmail.com
