Group Description

Due to the growing popularity of Ultimate Frisbee (Ultimate) in New York City, there is an increasing need to accommodate a diverse community of players of all levels seeking to play Ultimate. In addition to “recreational” pick-up games on weekends in Central Park, Prospect Park and other locations, the New York City Public Ultimate League (NYCPUL) is open to players of all levels, from novice to club level. We seek to playing opportunities in organized, casual and competitive, co-ed ultimate open to all players from all boroughs. We are currently developing a youth league and seeking experienced players to help out with that.

We hold in high regard what sets Ultimate apart from other competitive sports, namely "Spirit of the Game" a concept that promotes community and mutual respect among players on all levels and allows the game to be self-officiating.

The New York City Public Ultimate League (NYCPUL) was founded by Amir Lopatin as a co-ed recreational Ultimate league or “rec league” with the NYC Parks Department Sports permits back in 2001. Although Amir was tragically killed in an automobile accident on March 25, 2004, this recreational league continues exist in his memory. Every summer hundreds of players participate in this activity, which is currently scheduled to continue on weekends this summer in Central Park’s East Meadow. We also host the Annual Amir Lopatin Spirit of the Game Ultimate Tournament in memory of our league's founder.
