I was disappointed by Ed Week's tepid coverage of Arne's appearance at AERA, but I heard from someone who was there that 'It was a damn near riot.' So that's encouraging news.

I offer a guarantee in one of the posts below. Guaranteed that you will learn something if you read the whole thing. I don't see the point of blogging if no information is unearthed. Whining is whining. Offering information for the revolution is a whole different kettle of fish.

I'm off to New York City for a couple of days and no way would I take a computer. I want to walk the streets. . . and go to a conference. I'll take half a dozen books for my my nighttime benefit. And today I bought a bunch of the new postcard stamps, part of my ongoing campaign to save the U. S. Postal Service. I'll use them in NYC.

I recommend visiting the page '21 Heartwarming And Beautiful Facts About Mr. Rogers That Will Brighten Even The Crummiest Day'. It contains a whole lot better advice than anything sent out from the US Department of Education or any state department of education.

My accomplishment of the week was to head the team making 60 apple turnovers for the Senior Center,as well as crustless quiche and Persian salad. When enraged by corporate/government horrors, the camaraderie of chopping and dicing together lightens hearts. Our team of cooks includes an eight-year-old and a ten-year-old--homeschoolers--who have proven themselves to be indispensable. I can't help but think the experience offers a more valuable experience for them than sitting in school doing test prep.

I sent 28 Questions About Common Core to the governor, the ed commissioner, every member of the legislative ed committees, and to the state board of ed. Earnest volunteer board of ed members are the only ones who answered. Three of them thanked me.

The questions are getting pretty good notice. It could be very important for Vermont for it to get LOTS of notice, so I ask you to go to the site and recommend it to Facebook  and Tweet it. Please.

But more important, revise these questions & send them to your own state people. It will give the earnest ones pause that they can't answer them. And may embarrass the others. CAN your gov, members of state legislature, school board answer these 28 questions? Go forth and find out.

I fear that Progressives preach to the choir by reading each other's blogs & covering every outrage known to man. Corporados preach to the public & STAY ON MESSAGE.

Can we stay on the anti-Common Core message for 2 1/2 weeks?  17 minutes?

Anyway, please publicize--and use-- the 28 questions and we'll see what happens.

I'm getting back my air--picked a quart of wild red raspberries and a cup of black ones, which are just coming in. Picked 'em AND made it back up the hill . . . slowly.

I think I have enough air to do it, so I'm making a few remarks at the Vermont State Board of Education meeting tomorrow, a follow up on having sent all of them the 28 Questions About the Common Core. By the way, those questions hit 825 'shares' on Facebook. I'd been hoping for 1,000 but thank all of you who made a real effort.

I wonder what it would take to get 1000,000 teachers to start asking questions. That would be only a tiny percentage of the teacher population.

              What's wrong here?

But I'm not going to talk about the Questions tomorrow. I'm going to talk about my dad and show them my legacy from him, an 18" x 4" board with the stenciled numbers 58-1395.400-500, which sits on my desk.

Here is a collection for your weekend reading. I know the latest Common Core outrage is long but I hope you will read it with careful attention. This assault on first graders sits at the core of what corporate ed deform is all about.
                http://susanohanian.org/core.php?id=675

Contrast this with Kate DiCamillo's wonderful memories of a read-aloud.

With the help of teachers who refuse to remain silent, I try to bring not just complaints but the details of the assault that will compel people to action.

The fact of the matter than unless and until teacher behavior changes, the corporate raiders win.

And by 'change in teacher behavior' I mean REFUSAL.

I often post things in 'Notable Quotes' that never make it to the announcement list. For example, go over there and take a look about what the surgical community's perception of surgery residents. It certainly sounds familiar.

Thank you, Steve Krashen, for 'noticing' almost as soon as I posted it.

                There are new cartoons:

I think the resistance community has reached the point where we should move on from complaining. I don't want to sound too self-serving here, but my goal is provide information that will help us to that next step--active resistance and refusal.

Give me liberty [to choose my curriculum] or . . .

                Revolution.
