IT’S TIME TO OCCUPY THE PEP – Local 372 President Santos Crespo Jr. will join community groups, parents and elected officials to tell the PEP “Our Voice Matters”
(New York, N.Y.) President Santos Crespo will join hundreds of protestors on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at Brooklyn Technical H.S. to tell the PEP that the voice of the community matters.
“When will the insanity stop?” stated President Crespo. The PEP is an un-elected 13-member body whose decisions dramatically affect the lives of the 99%. Tragically, Mayor 1% Bloomberg appoints the majority of this board. Every time a vote for school closings has come before the panel, they have voted on behalf of their puppet master, Mayor Bloomberg. No matter what impassioned students, parents, educators or elected officials have said in the past, the PEP has ALWAYS voted against the people. “This must stop. These are our children, our schools, our communities and our lives at stake here” stated Crespo.
Reports have proven that some schools slated to be closed were actually graded “A” or “B” in their school evaluation reports. So why close them? It’s all part of the mayors “new” education plan, he wants to fix education, fix the schools. However, having a new education plan every 6 months is not “fixing” the system. Giving space over to charters is not “fixing” the system. Throwing money at consultants is not “fixing” the system.
The insanity must end. Mayor Bloomberg’s 1% puppet board should not be making decisions about our schools. Perhaps it is not the system that needs fixing; it is the mayor’s administration and policies.
Local 372 President Santos Crespo Jr. will be at Brooklyn Technical High School, 29 Fort Greene Place in Brooklyn at 5:30 PM.
