Group Description

The New York City Correction Department Emerald Society was founded in 1955 by James Mulvey and is the second oldest Law Enforcement Emerald Society in the nation. The NYPD Emerald Society was founded in 1953.

The society is made up of active/retired Members of the Uniform Force and Civilian Staff of the New York City Corrrection Department who are of Irish Lineage.

Uniform Members are designated by the New York State Penal Law as Peace Officers who have the power of arrest (on or off duty), entitled to carry firearms and patrol the toughest precincts in New York City (The City Jails).

The civilian members are made up of tradesman, logistical, support and adminstrative personnel who's service is invaluable in the overall operation of the Department.

This group was formed to keep all members (active, retired, civilian and honoray) informed of all Emerald Society events, pictures of past events and to help "keep the tradition alive" through communication.

Please introduce yourself, where you've been & what you are doing to keep busy. Feel free to post any items of interest, such as sick & death notifications, info requests, employment opportunities etc.
