      NW Greens endorses demonstration

At the monthly meeting of Northwest Greens on Thursday, September 11, the members present endorsed the Philly Against War demonstration, which will take place from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, October 10, on the west side of City Hall, 15th and Market Streets.

The demonstration is scheduled for October 10 because it is the sixth anniversary of the Congressional authorization to use force against the people of Iraq . Northwest Greens sees this as an opportunity, shortly before the general election, to speak out against the U.S. occupation of Iraq .

Sponsors of the October 10 demonstration include a coalition of peace groups. In addition to Northwest Greens, sponsors include: AfterDowningStreet.Org, Brandywine Peace Community, Green Party of Delaware Co., Green Party of Phila., International Action Center , International Socialist Organization, Lancaster Coalition for Peace and Justice, Northeast Philly for Peace and Justice, PDA/DFA Progressive Democracy, Phila. Regional Anti-War Network ( PRAWN ), Phila. Socialist Action, Phila. World Can’t Wait, Stop the War Committee and Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) Phila. Branch Military Issues Committee.

Members of Northwest Greens also discussed Fairmount Park Commission's use of herbicides in the Wissahickon Valley . Many members were angered because they enjoy using the Wissahickon with their children and pets. They would like to know what harmful effects these deadly chemicals might have. The members decided to research this problem and to join with other local groups which are interested in ending this practice.

For more information on these topics, please contact Northwest Greens by telephone at 215-843-4256 or by email at nwgreens@....
