The Quintet played a great show Friday night. Songs showed off many of
Grisman's influences with jazz, swedish fiddle tunes, blues, Django
inspired,a Duke Ellington tune, gypsy music and some bluegrass styles.
I am not a big flute fan but Matt Eakle's playing is always tasteful
and he is very fun to watch. The band was more jazz than latin
influenced music last night than the previous edition of the Quintet
with Frank Vignola on guitar. Vignola is a great edition to the band
not to take away from Enrique Coria, Grismans last guitar. For fans of
the mandolin in general it is hard to beat Grisman.
For those who missed Grisman at Jazz Alley he will be at Rivercity.
