Les: I wrote to Roland White, the vocalist on that NBB recording. The
correct title of the song is "Doorstep of Trouble." I don't know if anyone has
answered your question yet, but this is what I hear:

I wrote to Roland and his response follows. I'll let you know what his

Good to hear from you. I haven't heard the recording in a long time,
though I still sing the song on every concert we do.
It is late, and Diane wants me to shut things down for the day. I could
go on way into the night. I'm going to Michigan for the weekend to do a
mandolin workshop at Elderly Instruments. When I get back I want to be
in touch with you, if you don't mind. I have questions to ask of someone
in the North West.
Anyway what you heard on Doorstep Of Trouble is real close. In fact, it
is almost right on. I also recorded it years ago with Country Gazette,
and in singing it all those years I may have changed a few things about
the lyrics to make it simpler to sing. I'm almost afraid to listen to
that first recording. Well when I get back next Monday, I'll dig out the
recording, and see what differently I've done with it. Maybe not a whole

I agree. All my contracts state that we are independent contractors and are responsible for all taxes. I also describe the purchaser as "authorized representative" instead of "employer".

I don't know about Wa. but in Oregon if you are an employer (as this contract states) you are liable for all income taxes, State unemployment taxes, FICA (SSI), medicare and, workmans comp. insurance! Myself, as a promoter,I would never sign this contract naming myself as an employer, you think ascap is bad........try going up against the government
