      This is actually not the right way to comment out PHP. You re just breaking the opening PHP tag, thus converting the PHP code to a string which is output

        This is actually not the right way to comment out PHP. You're just
        breaking the opening PHP tag, thus converting the PHP code to a string
        which is output invisibly in the HTML comment. No harm done here, but I
        could easily come up with a scenario where this might not be a good idea.

        The right way would be:

        <?php // include("w2bot_nav.php"); ?>

        or

        <?php # include("w2bot_nav.php"); ?>

        or

        <?php /* include("w2bot_nav.php"); */ ?>
