      Hello,

      I am new to Notepad and indeed HTML.

      Can someone tell me how to use notepad to insert an Image from my documenmts folder into a page of thumprints which has been created for me by a friend. What I mean is that I have an html web page with 24 spaces in which to insert the thumbprint and then I would wish to link each thumb to the page containing the full enlarged photo.

      I don't know if the group accepts images in the email but if so I insert the thumb page as an attachment.

      Alex

        Alex,

        I've been waiting for someone else to jump in and correct you but, our
        text editor is Note TAB, not notepad, that name is too closely
        associated with Microsoft. I'm another ordinary user and most of us are
        very fond of NoteTab and would not like it confused or associated with
        MS's notepad. I think you'll feel the same when you get more familiar
        with it.

        As for these lists accepting images or any other attachments, the answer
        is, These lists don't accept any sort of attachments.

        But, you could view and copy the page in question in your browser, or,
        if you have the html source code text file, then copy and paste it into
        an email. Don't attach it just add it in with the email text.

          We don't accept attachments, that is true. If you can upload the page and
          give us the link, that would work.

          You of course don't actually insert the image, but rather draft html that
          will insert the thumbnail image when you view that code in your web browser.
          In turn, that image is a link that when clicked will open the full sized
          image.

          There are a couple of typical ways for you to do what you want. I won't
          complicate things at the moment by getting into all of the possibilities.
          Lets start with the simplest and work out from there after you have this
          down.

          The easiest way it so nest an image tag inside of a link tag.

          It would look like this:

          <a href='picture.jpg' target='_top'><img src='picture_th.jpg' width='100'
          height='50' border='0' alt='picture of nothing' /></a>

          When people start they often think that simply including a link to the full
          sized image in the image tag with a smaller size on it will be helpful.
          That really isn't because the entire image must first download and then the
          browser has to resize it with processor calculations to get it to view. It
          is much better to actually make a small copy of the image. Eric has kindly
          shared a freeware product called Easy Thumbnails which is excellent for
          making a whole batch of thumbnails to specifications. When I make them I
          append the suffix _th to the thumbnail.

          After you master this, we can talk about the other options ... using frames,
          opening an new window, or putting the image in a layer.

            Don,

            I thank you for your reply. One of my main problems is where to insert the html. There are lots of examples on the net for all sorts of things and all you do is to copy the html with perhaps slight editing. The problem is always where do you insert the html.

            It may be helpful if I give you the complete html of the thumbprint page together with the file name. If you then insert the html for me I would then be able to do all the rest and of course your example would help me to understand more fully.

            The file name is C:My documents/GamourmodelsCentral/Upload/GMC Ana Blue Mountains T

            The actual file name being Ana Blue Mountains T

            The html of the web page is:

When I uploaded it to the web the thumbprint was not there. On the NoteTab browser it was on the underneath cross but it should be on the upper cross as this is the hyperlink to the larger photo.

                  I have been following this thread for a while. If you look at
                  http://lloyd2.home.mindspring.com/thumb.html
                  you can decide if that is what you want to do. If so, just right click and
                  choose "view source" to see how I did it. There is nothing fancy just html.

                  I used another, easier I thought, method to make this:

                  For the album and large pictures I used Easy Imager. It is a new program
                  Eric has built to try some of the new stuff he is putting into NoteTab Pro

                    Don't mean to be prudish!

                          Oh dear,

                          Let me first of all say that there will be no porno at GlamourworldCentral.com when the site is finished .Neither will there be any popups to those type of sites. It is simply a glamour site for those interested in Glamour, models and clothes. The site is twofold. First to those interested in downloading wallpapers connected to serious models like Ana Claudia Michels, Gisele Bundchen and the like. All wallpapers will be offered FREE to those interested.

                          The commercial part of the site will be those who do the photo manipulation. Those who are experts in Photoshop and PSP. Those interested in creating their own websites when I will be offering Web Serving at realistic prices without Bandwidth restrictions etc.

                          My messages to the group is simply to seek help with the html problems I am facing being new to html having used software in the past but experiencing bandwidth problems.

                          The content of the site really has nothing to do with the group anyway. Simply help with html to accomplish what I am trying to achieve.

                          I hope this answers your question and fears.

                          Alex

                            Alex,

                            After following this thread I've come to the conclusion you should
                            consider download software from the following links. If you are doing
                            many albums or frequently updating them you may consider purchasing one
                            or both packages.

                            Free program, Easy Thumbnails
                            http://www.fookes.com/ezthumbs/

                            Trial software, Album Express
                            http://www.fookes.com/album/index.php

                            Trial software, Easy Imager
                            http://www.fookes.com/ezimager/index.php

                            If you download Album Express or Easy Imager, or, both there is a
                            usergroup list for each. Worthwhile just to ask questions when the need
                            arises. I don't have the subscription addresses available but many on
                            the list would probably furnish them.

                            The job you have is a big one, especially if you're a novice in HTML.
                            Don't misunderstand, I'm by no means an expert.

                            The thumbnails on the index(thum.html) should actually be thumbnails or
                            loading time will be increased. The size perspective between the thumbs
                            and the full size photos should be maintained.

                            It's difficult to load a 640x480 or a 1024x768 photo into a 50x50 square
                            without vertically elongating and distorting it and if you're dealing
                            with models chances are you'll run into portrait mode photos and they
                            will be elongated horizontally.

                            60x45 for a landscape photo fits nicely although sizes in that range are
                            pretty small and sometimes hard to distinguish one from another.

                            One of the trial softwares above would do about 95% of the work
                            pertaining to creating an album, or, several albums, and it appears
                            you'll need at least one album per Gallery.

                            In the end you'll have to compensate for the differences between your
                            thum.html and the index.html created by the album software. I think
                            that would be a great deal less work than the current course.

                              Well, as a starting point, Notetab can insert the image tags with their
                              width and height attributes for you as well as create links.

                              For this to work as indented you should create a folder for your site stuff
                              and keep the files in the same order as they will be in on the server.
                              Notatab will insert relative paths. This way things will work both on your
                              HD and on the server. You don't want paths beginning on "file:///C:/...".
                              They'll only work on your machine and nowhere else.

                              A common setup is to place the HTML files directly in your main folder and
                              images in a sub folder called 'images' or whatever. It doesn't matter how
                              you do it really, as long as you have the same arrangement locally as on
                              the server.

                              You have a lot of lines like this in your template:
                              <TD align="center" width="50" height="50"><IMG src="Gallery
                              1_files/alex.gif" width="50" height="50"></TD>

                              I assume that you want to replace those placeholder img tags with the real
                              ones. To do that delete the first img tag and put your cursor in its place.
                              Then go to the Document menu and click on "Insert HTML Link/Image". An
                              "Open File" dialog will pop up. Browse to the image you want to insert and
                              click OK. That's it - the img tag should now be in place.

                              Next step is to make the image link to the the page that contains the big
                              version of the image (provided you already have created that page of
                              course). You use the same menu command but this time you highlight the
                              image tag you just inserted first. Browse to the HTML file you want to link
                              to and clickety-click you've made a link.

                              Lets say the thumbnail is called dog_thumb.jpg and the page with the big
                              picture is called dog.html and you have arranged the files as in my example
                              above. Then the code should look something like this now:

                              <TD align="center" width="50" height="50">

                              <a href="dog.html">
                              <img src="images/dog_thumb.dog"
                              width="50" height="50"
                              alt="Change this text to something more meaningful">
                              </a>

                              </TD>

                              That's it. You can also do this by dragging files from the Quick List
                              window. That's the one that is toggled on and off if you hit the F6 key.
                              You can read in the help file about how to make it show the files you want.
                              It's under
                              Reference Information | Tools | Quick list.
                              I think this method is faster so you may want to check it out.

                                Hello Loro,

                                Thank you for taking the time to answer my problem in detail. I have done as you suggested but am still having problems.

                                The first part went great and the thumbnail was inserted into the thumb space on the html document. However when I tried to do the link and then viewed my browser the thumb image had been removed and replaced with some html.

                                Can you see anything wrong with the selected html which was created automatically by NoteTab:

                                <img href="../../../../glamourmodelscentral/page001michels21.html" border="0" alt="<img src="../../../../glamourmodelscentral/images/michels21.gif" width="50" height="50" border="0" alt="">">

                                I have gone to the trouble of renaming all my files so that they are all in lower case. I did have my files for the sight in My Documents but have been advised by my friend to keep all my site material out of my documents. On his suggestion I have clicked My Computer, then the C drive and then created a folder entitled Glamourmodels. Within this folder I have another folder entitled Images. This I think was what you were also suggesting.

                                However I notice that NoteTab has automatically created a file path similar to that which you said should be avoided file:///C:/....

                                I have downloaded Arles Image Web creater on a trial basis but I still want to try and master this manually. My actual site is not live yet in as much as I am waiting for them to create it having supplied them with the necessary information from my domain.

                                I assume that when you say:
                                go to the Document menu and click on "Insert HTML Link/Image".

                                This on my version of NoteTab is on the html menue and simply says :

                                Insert Tags

                                The the sub heading is img link.

                                I assume this is the correct utility to use as there are others like imbed image but in any case I have tried them all.

                                I think I must be really docile or something.

                                Alex

                                Well, as a starting point, Notetab can insert the image tags with their
                                width and height attributes for you as well as create links.

                                For this to work as indented you should create a folder for your site stuff

                                  Hi Alex,

                                  Lotta is much more experienced at this than I so I am sure you will want to
                                  be able to do things as she suggests. When I started building that web page
                                  you were looking at of mine, that is how I started. I had nothing but
                                  problems, all my fault, but found it easier to place all the code and
                                  pictures in the same folder to begin with. That made the programming much
                                  easier. I figured I could place them in separate folders and change the
                                  code to match after I made it work.

                                  <P><TABLE BORDER=3 WIDTH=750 HEIGHT=450>

                                  </TR>

                                  You will notice that by keeping everything in the same folder, no paths
                                  have to be listed. Notice, first I set up my table border, width and
                                  height. Then I placed each row between "<tr> and </tr>" each picture
                                  between "<td> and </td>. Then I repeated it for the next row.

                                  I made the large pictures ".jpg's" and the thumbnails ".gif's". That was
                                  just for my benefit, to keep things straight in my head as I was setting it
                                  up. I don't remember how your template is but this is very simple to make.

                                    Hi Alex,
                                    I think the reason you are seeing file:///C:/.... in your document is
                                    that you have not saved the page you are working on in the
                                    glamourmodelscentral folder on your computer. Right click on the page
                                    tab and choose save as. and it will show you where it is saved, if I
                                    am right you can browse to the glamourmodelscentral folder and save it
                                    there.
                                    You have inserted the image into the link alt description, notetab
                                    will use highlighted text as the link alt. May work better to put the
                                    link in first, then put the image before the </a>. Instead of

                                    you should have

                                    <a href="glamourmodelscentral/page001michels21.html" border="0"

                                    Perhaps someone else can say where <img href=" came from, I am at a loss.

                                      Nah, you can have your site stuff in My Documents or on the desk top or
                                      wherever you want. As long as you keep it all in its own folder and the
                                      structure within that folder is the same as it will be on the server. Links
                                      won't be the same otherwise. If you take a look at the funny tags above you
                                      have href="../../../../glamourmodelscentral/page001michels21.html
                                      That means the page you are linking to is 4 folders up from the one you are
                                      linking from (each ../ goes one step up). If that's how you want it it's
                                      fine but you have to keep it that way on the server too.

                                      >want to try and master this manually.

                                      I got the feeling that was what you wanted. ;-) It fun and you'll soon get
                                      the hang of it. As lloyd said, it's maybe easier to keep everything in one
                                      single folder and practice a little until you get the hang of how Notetab
                                      works and how the tags should look. Make a few pages with just an image and
                                      a link in it. You don't need all the table stuff for it to work. That's
                                      just for layout. Start with a bare skeleton like this:

                                      <html>

                                      <head>
                                      <title></title>
                                      </head>
                                      <body>

                                      <!-- STUFF GOES HERE -->

                                      </body>
                                      </html>

                                      >
                                      >

                                      I've never seen anything like this. What version of Notetab do you have?
                                      Mysteries, mysteries!

                                        Hi Lotta,

                                        Just a quickie for now to confirm that I have NoteTab version 4.95 Trial.

                                        Bit busy at the moment. I did however have a go with the Arles Image creater and then looked at the html after creating the album. Strangely enough it did not show this at all .../.../.../.../ in the html.

                                        More later,

                                        Alex

                                        That looks very peculiar since the tags kind of overlap each other and a
                                        tag like <img href=""> doesn't exists. Did you copy-paste that or can it be
                                        a typo in there? Or maybe you accidently dragged stuff around in Notetab?
