      Here's one way.

      In your XHTML code you have the following code:

      <P class="buttons"><a href="#" target="main">A BUTTON</a></p>

      Alter your opening paragraph tag so it's like this:

      <p class="buttons" onmouseover="this.className='onbuttons';"

      Then in your CSS, define two more classes such as:
