Thanks for getting back with me.
I've never been good at explaining things!

      Yes, my clips are named top4/1, top4/2, ... top4/4.
And I have a 'bottom' set also.
Each of these contain all the forward/backward/home htm code to link between
my index pages that I am setting up.
Since some of my page sets have 2 index pages, or up to 8 or 9 index pages,
I have to have all these sets to insert at the top and bottom of my code.
I'm just trying to automate the process, and clips seems the way to go.
Just need to crawl before I can walk!

I think I figured out how to concatenate.
I didn't realize it could be that easy.
I thought there was a function to do that, but I figured out that I could
just do something like this ...
      ^!set %TopClip%=^$StrTrim("Top")$^%DocCount%/^%Index%
where DocCount is the total Index pages that I have loaded up and the index
is the number 1 through whatever ...
This gives me %TopClip% with a value of 'Top4/2' or whatever the count and
      index are.
Now I just have to figure out how to execute that clip.
My attempt at it didn't work.
      I tried
      ^!Clip ^%TopClip%.
I'll just have to do more reading in HELP.

And yes, I am referring to the opened Index pages (tabs, whatever they are
      called!).
I would open them in the order that I would want them processed

We can close this thread as I think I figured out how to concatenate.
I have more questions which I'll write up at a later date.

      Thanks again ...

      Later, BS

It looks like we need some clarification here.
      1. Is top4/2 really the name of the clip or is it really a clip 'top'
whose operation will change depending on two variables, say %Total% and
%Current%, where the value of %Total% might be 4 and the value of
%Current% would be varied from 1 to 4?

      2. What do you mean by "document position"? Do you means the Document
Number assigned by NoteTab (which will depend on the order in which
documents are opened?) It it, for example, what I have called %Current%
      in the above question?

If all you want are navigation links to next and prior, start and end, that is very easy to do and you can do it with one clip, not a whole bunch of clips.

I guess I'll just have to work at it for a while and maybe get something

This is an example of what I want to insert at the top of each index page
          ...
Of course all of this depends on how many index.htm pages are in a set.
But, with a little programming, it could be done.

You are right, there has to be a way.
          I'll give it a shot.
I just need to learn some basic stuff about clips before I can forge ahead.
Some of the HELP is not that clear or explains it well enough.
Maybe I'll put together a short list of specific questions that I have and
could get some answers on this forum.

am I supposed to top or bottom post around here?

            Anyway,

            Some helpful commands for you:
^$GetDocCount$ will get the total number of documents

^$GetDocName(Index)$ will tell you the name of a document at a given
index position so you can build the links.

^$GetDocIndex(Name)$ will tell you the active documents name - not sure
            you need this one

^$GetDocIndex$ will tell you the number of the active index -- so using
this you can build the little link index easily enough using an if

            ^!If Integer1 <> Integer2 GoToLabelTrue ELSE GoToLabelFalse
Build that so that you skip building the link if it is the current
            document, instead making it  ^$GetDocCount$

^!InsertHtml Any text with tokens (^p/^t)
what you use to actually insert the html you have built

There is a lot there and easy to miss stuff.
              Like where is ^P, ^T, ^&, ^#, defined?
I see them being used in samples, but can't find the place in HELP where

I have a number of other similar questions.
Just can't seem to find the definition for them.
Maybe I'll start a new thread with them.
