      Pat,

      To make this function quite a bit more utilitarian here's a modified clip.
      This will allow you to choose the search item at the running of the clip.

      H="Count Individual Characters/Words"
      ; select area to be searched, run clip.
      ; you enter character or words into clip wizard
      ; when you run the clip.
      ^!Set %searchitem%=^?[ENTER ITEM TO BE SEARCHED=2004]
      ^!Set %CaseSensitive%=^?[YES/NO for CASE SENSITIVITY==YES^=1|_NO^=0]
      ^!Set %WholeWord%=^?[YES/NO for WHOLEWORD==YES^=1|_NO^=0]
      ;
      ; last line, long line that will most surely be wrapped in email.
      ^!Info [L]Count - ^%searchitem%'s =
      ^$StrCount("^%searchitem%";"^$GetSelection$";^%CaseSensitive%;^%WholeWord%)$
