      Hi!

I have for disks installed on my slug. I bought an usb hub at ebay...
      the output of hdparm:

      hdparm -tT /dev/sdd

      /dev/sdd:
      Timing cached reads: 204 MB in 2.03 seconds = 100.49 MB/sec
      Timing buffered disk reads: 4 MB in 4.42 seconds = 926.70 kB/sec

      Hmm... but

      cat /proc/bus/usb/devices | grep Hub
      S: Product=USB2.0 Hub
      S: Product=USB2.0 Hub

says, it's an USB2.0 Hub - now, is it possible that the device is
actually a rebranded USB 1.1 hub? Or could this be a problem with the
      slug?

      Regards, Markus

I get this output from hdparm: hdparm -tT /dev/sda /dev/sda: Timing cached reads: 168 MB in 2.03 seconds = 82.76 MB/sec Timing buffered disk reads: 22 MB

I get this output from hdparm:

        hdparm -tT /dev/sda

        /dev/sda:
        Timing cached reads: 168 MB in 2.03 seconds = 82.76 MB/sec
        Timing buffered disk reads: 22 MB in 3.10 seconds = 7.10 MB/sec

looks like your 'buffered' reads are at 1.1 speeds

        cat /proc/bus/usb/devices | grep Hub
        S: Product=USB OHCI Root Hub
        S: Product=USB OHCI Root Hub

        I have a USB 2.0 hub installed (uNSLUng 5.x)

          I don't think so.

USB 1.1 allowed a maximum transfer rate of 12Mbits/second.

          12 Mbits/s = 1.5 MB/sec without overhead. With usb 1.1 the maxium
          speed is 1 MB/sec.
