Dance of the planets
- View SourceThis month Venus is rapidly catching up with Earth appearing high in the sky at the begining of the month but over the next couple of months appearing ever closer to the sun until in June is passes between the Earth and Sun in the last Venus transit of this century. Meanwhile Earth in its faster orbit speeds around the sun leaving the slower moving Jupiter on the other side of the sun where it will be hidden in the glare of the sun later in the month. Mars is still brilliant in Leo high in the southern sky but will rapidly fade this month as Earth pulls away from the fire planet. Saturn is nearby in Virgo and always pretty to see in a medium sized telescope but the best views are now from the Cassini spacecraft. Mercury will be seen before sunrise this month.
