Late with this due to a fried motherboard and lightly toasted cable modem.
      Grace

They took them on board their ship and went their way until when (the
coastline) became full of fjords. They put

the ship in into the firth. There was one island out before (it) and there
were also powerful currents around (the) island.

Þeir kölluð hana Straumsey. Fugl var þar svo margur að trautt mátti fæti
      niður koma í

      milli eggjanna.

They called it Current Isle. There were so many birds there that scarcely
might feet come down between the eggs.

      skipunum

They steered in with the firth and called it Current Firth and carried the
      cargo from the ships

og bjuggust þar um. Þeir höfðu með sér alls konar fé og leituðu sér þar
      landsnytja. Fjöll

and settled themselves around there. They had with them all kinds of
livestock and sought for them there useful land. There were hills

there and fair it was to look upon about there. They heeded nothing except
      to explore (the) land.

      grös mikil.

There was much grass (or tall grass).

They were there during the winter and (the) weather became severe and not
(having) granted before (Jones has "having made provisions") and (it) became
      bad concerning

matarins og tókust af veiðarnar. Þá fóru þeir út í eyna og væntu að þar
      mundi gefa

the food and (they were) deprived of hunting or fishing. Then they went out
to (the) island and hoped that there would give

something from hunting or fishing or driven (ashore). There was still
little by way of food gathering, but their animals did well there.
      Afterwards

they called on God that he (might) send them anything to gather for food and
(their prayer) was not so quickly allowed as

      þeim var annt til.

      to them was eager for.

Þórhallur hvarf á brott og gengu menn að leita hans. Stóð það yfir þrjú
      dægur í samt. Á

Þórhall wandered away and men went to look for him. It stood (that way) for
      three days all together.

hinu fjórða dægri fundu þeir Karlsefni og Bjarni hann Þórhall á hamargnípu
      einni. Hann

On the fourth day they, Karlsefni and Bjarni, found him, Þórhall, at one
      peak of a crag. He

horfði í loft upp og gapti hann, bæði augum og munni og nösum, og klóraði
      sér og klípti

turned aloft up and he gaped, both eyes and mouth and nose, and scratched
      himself and ??

sig og þuldi nokkuð. Þeir spurðu hví hann væri þar kominn. Hann kvað það
      öngu skipta.

himself and muttered something. They asked why he were come there. He said
      it didn't matter.

Bað hann þá ekki það undrast, kveðst svo lengst lifað hafa að þeir þurftu
      eigi ráð fyrir

He bade them not to be astonished, declared of himself as long (as) he had
lived (as old as he was) that they needed not give him advice.

honum að gera. Þeir báðu hann fara heim með sér. Hann gerði svo.

They bade him go home with them. He did so.

A little later a whale came there and people rushed to (it) and poked it
with a spear but still people didn't recognize what

hval það var. Karlsefni kunni mikla skyn á hvalnum og kenndi hann þó eigi.
      Þenna hval

(kind of) whale it was. Karlsefni knew much knowledge of whales and still
he didn't recognize it. (The) food servants cooked that whale

and (they) ate of (it) and still all became sick from (it).

Þá gengur Þórhallur að og mælti: "Var eigi svo að hinn rauðskeggjaði varð
      drjúgari enn

Then Þórhall walks (up) and spoke, "Was (it) not so that the redbearded one
      got the better of

your Christ? I had this (example) now for my poetry when I make verses
about Þór, trusting in him fully.

      Sjaldan hefir hann mér brugðist."

      Seldom has he disappointed me."

And when people knew this none wished to eat and cast down from (the)
      mountain?

og sneru sínu máli til guðs miskunnar. Gaf þeim þá út að róa og

and turned their cases to God's mercy. (Good weather) gave them then to row
      out and

      skorti þá eigi birgðir.

      then not short of stores.

During the spring they go in into Straum Firth and had (good) fishing from
      each of

the land, hunting from the mainland, eggs and deep-sea fish from the sea.
