MM & HP have "faster" for the first instance and "came galloping out
of control" for the second, perhaps to avoid the repetition. Would
      "further" be 'framar' or 'lengur'?

      Vápnum sínum
      skal-a maðr velli á
      feti ganga framarr,
því at óvíst er at vita
      nær verðr á vegum úti
      geirs um þörf guma.

...although a lot of the examples of 'framar(r)' seem to be more
      abstract / figurative.

Bjarni mælti: "Eigi mun eg renna lengur fyrir Þorkeli og skulum vér
hér þess bíða er að höndum kemur."

..which I think, from the context, could be "any further" (in space)
or "any longer" (in time). But just before this example (in
Vápnfirðinga saga), there is: Fara þeir nú sem þeir mega mest uns þeir
koma mjög svo í öndverðan dalinn -- 'sem þeir mega mest' = as fast /
hard as they could. And from Little Red Riding Hood:

Maðurinn fann hestinn, tók hann og reið ákaflega, en hesturinn hljóp
því meir sem hann reið lengur og bar hann skjótt yfir.
