Þykir maður við það fávís verða ef hann kannar ekki víðara en hér Ísland.”
A man seems with that to become foolish if he does not explore wider than Iceland here.”

Og er Snorri sér það að Bolli hefir statt þetta fyrir sér að ekki mundi tjá að letja þá býður Snorri honum að hafa fé svo mikið sem hann vildi til ferðarinnar.
And when Snorri sees that, that Bolli has placed this before himself that it was not of use to dissuade then, Snorri offers him to have so much money as he wanted for the voyages.

Bolli játar því að hafa féið mikið "vil eg," segir hann, "engis manns miskunnarmaður vera hvorki hér né utanlendis.”
Bolli agrees with that to have much money “I want,” he says “to be no man’s object of charity neither here nor aboard.”

Then Bolli rides south to Borgarfjardar and to White-River and buys half the ship that the men who owned it.

Eiga þeir bræður þá saman skipið.
The brothers then have the same ship.

      Ríður Bolli síðan vestur heim.
Bolli then rides west to home.

Þau Bolli og Þórdís áttu eina dóttur.
They, Bolli and Thordis, had a daughter.

      Sú hét Herdís.
      That (daughter) was named Herdis.

Þeirri mey bauð Guðrún til fósturs.
They asked Gudrun to foster the maiden.

She was then a year old when she went to Helgafell.

      Þórdís var og löngum þar.
      Thordis also stayed there long.

Var Guðrún og allvel til hennar.
Gudrun was also very well to her.

      Utanferð þeirra bræðra
      The brothers’ journey abroad

Nú fóru þeir bræður báðir til skips.
Both the brothers now went to (the) ship.

      Bolli hafði mikið fé utan.
      Bolli had much wealth abroad.

They now made ready the ship, and when they were prepared, they went to sea.

Þeim byrjaði ekki skjótt og höfðu útivist langa, tóku um haustið Noreg og komu norður við Þrándheim.
They didn’t get a swift wind and had a long voyage, (they) landed during the fall at Norway and came north to Trondheim.

King Olafr was in the east of the country and sat at Vikinni, and he had fulfilled there for winter quarters.

Og er þeir bræður spurðu það að konungur mundi ekki koma norður til Þrándheims það haust þá segir Þorleikur að hann vill leita austur með landi og á fund Ólafs konungs.
And when the brothers learned that, that the king would not come north to Trondhiem that fall, then Thorleikr says that he wants to try to go east across the country and meet King Olafr.

Bolli answers: “It is little to me concerning that, to go from one merchant town to another during autumn. (similar to Z. reka 9 – recast landa á milli, to go from one country to another)

Þykir mér það mikil nauð og ófrelsi.
It seems to me a great need and tyranny. (??)

Vil eg hér sitja veturlangt í bænum.
I want to sit (all) winter long in town.

Er mér sagt að konungur mun koma norður í vor en ef hann kæmi eigi þá mun eg ekki letja að við förum á hans fund.”
It is said to me that (the) king will come north in spring, but if he doesn’t came, then I will not permit that we go to meet him.”

      Bolli ræður þessu.
      Bolli says this.

Ryðja þeir nú skip sitt og taka sér bæjarsetu.
They now unload his ship and take for themselves a dwelling in town.

Brátt fannst það að Bolli mundi vera maður framgjarn og vildi vera fyrir öðrum mönnum.
It was soon discovered that Bolli would be a striving man and wanted to be before other men.

He succeeded also because the man was generous. (Z. taka 13 - þat tókst honum, he succeeded)

Fékk hann brátt mikla virðing í Noregi.
He soon received much honor in Norway.

Bolli retained a small detachment in Trondheim and it was easy to recognize where he went to an inn that his men were better equipped with clothing and weapons than other people of the town.

Hann skaut og einn fyrir sveitunga sína alla þá er þeir sátu í skytningum.
He also paid alone for his company of men, all those who sat in the inn. (Z. skjóta 4 - to pay (hann skaut einn fyrir sveitunga sína alla)

Þar eftir fór annað örlæti hans og stórmennska.
Thereafter his generosity and greatness went next.

Eru þeir bræður nú í bænum um veturinn.
The brothers now stay in the town during the winter.
