Here’s my translation. Not as straightforward as some.

      Cheers

      Alan

      54. kafli - Af Halldóri og Barða
Chapter 54 – Of Halldór and Barði.

Nú segir Halldór Barða í hljóði að þeir bræður ætla að fara að Bolla og
Now Halldór says to Barði in secret that they (the) brothers intend to go at (ie attack) Bolli and

sögðust eigi lengur þola frýju móður sinnar: "Er ekki því að leyna Barði frændi
said-of-himself (ie that he would) not to suffer (any) longer (the) reproach of his mother: “(it) is therefore concealing nothing, Barði kinsman,

that much was much under (ie the underlying reason behind) (the) invitation to you that we wanted here to have your

      liðsinni og brautargengi."
      support and help.”

Þá svarar Barði: "Illa mun það fyrir mælast að ganga á sættir við frændur sína
Then Barði answers: “That will be badly spoken of to break (see ganga á, Z15) agreements with one’s kinsmen

en í annan stað sýnist mér Bolli torsóttlegur. Hann hefir margt manna
but (and) secondly, Bolli seems to me hard-to-get-at. He has many persons (men)

about himself but (and) is himself the greatest dauntless-man. There (it) also is-lacking not sensible (acc plural, not comparative)

ráðagerðir er þau eru Guðrún og Ósvífur. Þykir mér við þetta allt saman óauðsóttlegt."
plans (advisers?) when they are Guðrún and Ósvífr. (It) seems to me with this all together not-easy-to-perform (see auðsóttligr).”

Halldór segir: "Hins munum vér þurfa að torvelda ekki þetta mál fyrir oss.
Halldór says: “We will be-in-need-of that, to make this matter not difficult for us.” (I think this means that it´s is best that we don´t convince ourselves that this is all too hard)

Hefi eg og þetta eigi fyrri upp kveðið en það mun framgengt verða að vér
I also have not declared this sooner than that will become brought-about that we

munum til leita hefndanna við Bolla. Vænti eg og frændi að þú skerist eigi undan ferð þessi með oss."
will seek for the-vengeance with Bolli (I think this means that he wouldn´t have mentioned it if they weren´t already committed to seeking vengeance). I expect also kinsman that you would-not-refuse this journey with us.”

Barði svarar: "Veit eg að þér mun ósannlegt þykja að eg víkist undan.
Barði answers: “I know that to you (it) will seem improbable that I would-refuse.

Mun eg það og eigi gera ef eg sé að eg fæ eigi latt."
I will also not do that (ie refuse) if I see that I should-not –be-able to dissuade (pp. of letja?) (you).”

"Þá hefir þú vel af máli," segir Halldór, "sem von var að."
“Then you have well from the-case,” says Halldór, “as was expectation of (it) (ie as was to be expected).”

Barði sagði að þeir mundu verða ráðum að að fara.
Barði said that they would need to (verða at + inf) pay-heed-to (see fara at, Z18) counsels.

Halldór kvaðst spurt hafa að Bolli hafði sent heiman menn sína, suma norður
Halldór declared-of-himself to have heard that Bolli had sent his persons (men) from-home, some north

to Hrútafjörðr to a ship but (and) some out to Strönd: “That is said to me that Bolli

is (subjunctive) at a shieling in Sælingsdalr and (there) are not there more of persons (men) than those house-servant who there

vinna heyverk. Sýnist mér svo sem eigi muni í annað sinn sýnna að leita til
perform hay-work (haymaking). (It) seems to me such like (there) will not (be) another time better (see sýnn, Z2) to seek for

      fundar við Bolla en nú."
a meeting with Bolli than now.”

Og þetta staðfesta þeir með sér, Halldór og Barði.
And this they make-firm between themselves, Halldór and Barði.

Maður hét Þorsteinn svarti. Hann bjó í Hundadal í Breiðafjarðardölum, vitur
(There) is a man called Þorsteinn (the) black. He lived in Hundardalr in Breiðafjarðardalir, a wise

maður og auðigur. Hann hafði verið langan tíma vinur Ólafs pá.
man and rich. He had been for a long time a friend of Ólafr peacock.

She was given-in-marriage to that man who was-called Helgi and was Harðbeinn’s-son

Helgi was a tall man and strong and a great sea-faring-man.
