      Knitting From South Sweden
Carol Huebscher Rhoades South Sweden has a rich and varied textile
tradition. During the week we will study the history and techniques
of three knitting styles: 20th century Bohus knitting (purl stitches
and color combined for nuanced effects); Halland (small, 2-color
geometric and Bjarbo motifs); and the knit and purl texture designs
found on night sweaters from Skane. You will learn about the yarns
for each knitting tradition, typical and unusual motifs, garment
construction, and finishing. You'll also learn how to read a Swedish
knitting pattern, including some regional words. To practice each
style and its associated techniques, you'll knit several small items.
Materials fee of approx. $50 for yarns, handouts and patterns.
Intermediate to advanced knitting skills needed (familiarity with
knitting on double-pointed needles and with 2 colors).
