Heritage Sewing Techniques with Jody Grage

      Saturdays, 10:00am-2:00pm.
      October 8, 15, and 22, 2011

A series of three classes will provide a solid basis for using traditional hand-stitching methods to make authentic heritage clothing. Investigate and perfect these specialized stitching techniques while making a useful bag, learning to create stunning details that can be used for both traditional and contemporary garments.

Jody Grage has been knitting and sewing since she was five years old—70 years!—and is a true expert in the field of Norwegian heritage clothing. She worked as a conservator for the Norwegian Folk Museum in Oslo, Norway, where she cataloged, repaired, and made textiles and traditional costumes.

Whether you're a traditionalist who wants to march in the 17th of May Parade next year in your own bunad, or a budding fashion designer who wants to learn some exquisite hand-stitching techniques, join "The Bunad Lady" for this unique educational experience. Stitches will include Bagsting (a type of backstitch), Grensting (feather stitch), Sammensyning (seaming techniques), and Rynker (cartridge pleating).

Cost: $40 for members, $45 for non-members. Additional materials fee of $5 is payable to the instructor.

Class size is limited, so please register at least one week before first class date.
