budget cuts once again!!

    well i just found out that nevada is only getting one large air tanker that will be bases out of battle mountain air base (middle of nevada) for the 03-fire

      well i just found out that nevada is only getting one large air
      tanker that will be bases out of battle mountain air base (middle of
      nevada) for the 03-fire season
      but they said they would make up by putting 6 air tractors that are a
      bit bigger than a small plane so i think there only good for putting
      out spot fires not major incident like we had last year
      and this year may be even worse the way the snow pack is looking
      so thats my 2 cents

        Actually, those Air Tractors are basically crop
        dusters. They typically carry 800+ gallons of
        retardant/water.

        Pros: They're extremely manuverable and can land about
        anywhere to be resupplied by a water tender, thus
        decreasing turn-around time to about nothing. Cheaper
        to operate.

        Cons: Difficult to fly in high wind. Lower payload
        may be blown away. Lower payload can reduce coverage
        level.

        I've never worked with SEAT's (Single Engine Air
        Tanker), so this is just what I've heard.
