<MARKLEEVILLE, Calif. -- Fire crews are fighting a wildfire that broke out
this afternoon in Alpine County south of Lake Tahoe, forcing the evacuation of
resorts and campgrounds.
The 100-acre blaze is making runs in heavy timber and could threaten homes
if fire crews don't get a handle on it this evening.
The fire broke out close to the Burnside Mine near the intersection of
highways 88 and 89 in Hope Valley.
Fire officials have called in air tankers and helicopters to respond to the
fire as part of an all-out attack.
