Reelblack Presents, Philadelphia's longest running screening series
devoted to African-American film, will showcase the Philadelphia
premiere of "THE PACT" at 7 PM on Thursday, December 7th at
International House. Based on the best selling book of the same name,
the film is based on a true story about three friends from Newark, NJ
who made a pledge to graduate from high school, become doctors
      and serve their community.
This is the most important film Reelblack Presents has shown in the 4
year history of the series. The movie is not only well made, but carries
      a message:
Learning is cool and there are ways to be a part of the system and not
      a victim of it!
"THE PACT" is a gritty, provocative true-life story of three friends from
the African American 'hood of Newark, NJ--Rameck Hunt, Sampson
Davis, and George Jenkins. They were so committed to their pact to find
a way to get to college and medical school that they overcame poverty,
criminal records, and crack-addicted parents to become doctors. They
are now fighting to inspire the next generation to reclaim their dreams.
"THE PACT" captures the pathos of the men's individual journeys, the
integrity of their voices and the power of their rare friendship. Their
stories affirm the values that ultimately sustained and drove them: courage,
tenacity, and faith. And they give tribute to the life of the mind and its
power to turn dreams into reality.
--"The Pact" won the Indie Spec Best Documentary Award at the 2006
      Boston International Film Festival
