Subject: [dc_crew] LATINA filmmaker makes it BIG at Sundance: Opening Day 3/19/08

SUBJECT: "La Misma Luna" ("Under the Same Moon")
As a new member of "Las Comadres" community, I wanted to make you aware of my film's OPENING DATE on March 19. The film is "La Misma Luna" ("Under the Same Moon"). We need the support of Latinos across the country when this movie opens so I hope everyone will let their friends know about the film. It is being released by Fox Searchlight and The Weinstein Company.

      OUR SUCCESS STORY
The movie was produced independently last year and we took it to Sundance last year to get distribution. In a lucky turn of events there was a bidding war between 5 Hollywood studios to acquire the film: Lionsgate, Sony Pictures Classic, Miramax, Fox
      Searchlight and The Weinstein Company.

After a 16 hour bidding war (approx.) TWC and Fox Searchlight decided to buy it together for worldwide distribution. What's important about all this information is that with the exception of a small appearance by America Ferrera, these Hollywood executives had no idea who any of these actors were. But it didn't matter. The movie became the second highest sale at Sundance last year and the highest sale ever for a Spanish-language film.

Most of our case are wonderful actors from Mexico. Our female lead is Kate del Castillo, who is very well known in the Latino community. Our male lead is Eugenio Derbez, one of the best known comedians in Mexico, making his dramatic debut with this film.
Our star is a young boy named Adrian Alonso, who played Antonio Banderas' son in "Zorro." He is amazing in the film.

I have provided links to two trailers: Trailer A (the English version) is what's airing in theatres
as a preview for "JUNO" right. Once you click on the link, you'll see a short synopsis of the story.

In addition to Sundance, we have also been invited to the following film festivals - Toronto, Deauville, Rome, Hawaii, Havana, Palm Springs, Chicago, Latin Beat in New York and many, many more. We are set to go to Santa Barbara (it premieres there 1/25) and
then Oregon, San Diego, Miami and Cleveland.

      Regards,
      Ligiah
