Butler Reservoir Challenge – a loop hike 9+ miles from Pyramid Mountain on the Butler-Montville trail to the dam on Butler Reservoir and back on the Kinnelon –Boonton trail. There are some ups and downs, but most of this hike is fairly level, but quite rocky in spots. The reservoir views are nice.
Take I-287 north to exit 45(Wooton Ave. Boonton). Make first left and go under 287. Follow Wooton Ave. straight up hill to 4-way stop at top of hill. Turn right on Boonton Ave. (CR 511) and go approx. 3 miles to parking area on left.
Alternate – take rte 23 north to Boonton Ave south (CR 511), go about 5 miles to Visitor Center on right, across from Mars Park.

Hikes cancelled in bad weather. ( Rain makes the rocks too slippery).
Bring: daypack, water, snacks or lunch, insect repellant, jacket
Wear: hiking boots or other sturdy shoes. Trails are rocky.
