So it wasn't just an Urban legend.
Nicole Kidman and hubby Keith Urban are expecting their first child
together, E! Online has confirmed.
"The couple are thrilled," Kidman's U.S.-based rep Catherine Olim
said.
As recently as last week the actress' camp was adamantly denying
reports that Kidman was pregnant.
But where there's smoke, there's usually a bun in the oven. The New
York Post's Page Six reported Monday that Kidman had dropped out of
the upcoming period drama The Reader, further fueling speculation
that the Golden Compass star was taking it easy for a reason.
A source also told the tabloid that Kidman's photo shoot for Vanity
Fair's annual Hollywood issue had to be pushed up, "because the
costumes she's set to wear won't fit her much longer."
The 40-year-old Oscar winner has two adopted children with ex Tom
Cruise. This will be the first child for Urban, who swapped vows with
Kidman in June 2006.
Kidman revealed to Vanity Fair last summer that she suffered two
miscarriages while married to Cruise, prompting their decision to
adopt.
"From the minute Tom and I were married, I wanted to have babies,"
the actress said. "And we lost a baby early on, so that was really
very traumatic. And that's when we would adopt Bella."
Daughter Isabella is now 15, and their son Connor is 12.
Kidman and Cruise split up in 2001 and she was briefly engaged to
Lenny Kravitz before meeting Urban in 2005.
She and Urban, a native New Zealander, tied the knot in a Catholic
chapel near her family's home in Sydney, Australia. A lavish
reception attended by 230 of their nearest and dearest followed the
clifftop nuptials. Longtime Kidman pals Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman
and Baz Luhrmann were among the revelers.
In September, the newlyweds purchased a farm near Leipers Fork,
Tennessee, about 30 minutes away from Nashville, possibly with the
pitter-patter of little feet in mind.
"I'm yearning to have one," she told Vanity Fair about the couple's
plans for a new addition. "I think I would be very sad if I wasn't
able to have a baby. Keith knows I want one, and he has been getting
there slowly."
Urban, who entered rehab four months after the duo said "I do," has
credited Kidman with helping him get his life back on track.
"They say grief makes hearts and closer bonds than joy ever can," the
country-music star said last year. "We've gotten through a lot and
she's been extraordinary."
