woohoooo the stink is open again and as usual it didnt disappoint. Thanks to my wife Julie Wraithmell (Audubon of Florida) for working hard with plant staff to arrange access for birders again and thanks to the Plant staff for letting us enjoy the birds that the plant attracts, Springhill rocks! Most of the action was on Swan Lake. Highlights as follows.
2 Common Goldeneye (female and 1st winter male)
1 Red-breasted Merganser (female)
1 Gadwall (female)
2 Bald Eagles (adult, 1st winter)
2 Laughing Gulls(1st winters)
11 American Pipits
1 Belted Kingfisher
1 Ruddy Duck
2 American Kestrels
65 Mourning Doves came into drink on Swan Lake
many Lesser Scaup, Northern Shoverler, Blue-winged & Green-winged Teal, Mallard, Bufflehead
lots of Ring-billed Gulls plus 2 Herring Gulls. Several Tree Swallows. Savannah Sparrows.
I also checked out Church's Chicken Cess Pool to see if Gails Canvasback was still present. Je suis desolee it had gone! Did have 30 Ruddy Ducks and 12 Hooded Mergs. 4 Herring Gulls with Ring-billed. Several Ring-necked Ducks, Lesser Scaup.
Lake Munson had 4 Gadwall (2 males, 2 females), Buffleheads, gulls and terns galore, lots of Wood Storks, 3 Bald Eagles.
Cedar Waxwings over East Park Ave this morning.
