Spoonbills at Lake Killarney
- Early this morning, Ed Woodruff saw three Roseate Spoonbills in Lake
Killarney in the mudflats just east of the small park on the east side
of Shannon Lakes West where Shannon Lakes goes between the large eastern
portion of Lake Killarney and the smaller western portion to the west.
I was unable to go look for them until about 1:00 p.m.
There were no Spoonbills on the mudflat area but I did find one with the
scope under some Willow trees on the north bank of the Lake some 300 or
400 yards away. It had very little pink so I presume it was a juvenile
or 2nd year bird. I got a good clear look at the head and bill but
would not have been able to ID the bird without a scope. I would guess
that if they were to show again on the mudflats near the small park, it
would be early morning or evening hours.
