Group Description

For many of us the change in perspective and/or POV that starts when you begin to homeschool, expands the farther you move away from the mainstream model.

Those of us who have begun to relax, take a step back, and trust our children, have become increasing aware of the amazing abilities our children possess to learn independently... understand without being taught.

This unexpected paradigm shift in a world where the norm is an ever expanding amount of structured schooling has lead to a growing number of parents interested in the theory behind and the realities of unschooling.

There are many of us who believe that unschooling is not so much a methodology as a way of life. A way of life where assessing and reassessing beliefs, patterns of living, and opinions stretches far beyond the subjects taught in school.

With that in mind discussion with others who are on a similar path is important. It’s a time we check where we are, look at where we’re going, and consider new possibilities.

How we all grow, develop and how learning happens are just starting points for discussion here. Because of the variety of topics, and our desire to challenge ourselves, a freethinking point of view is important. Equally important is respect for the opinions of others and a willingness to agree there is often more than one right answer... and what is right for me, may not be right for you.
With that in mind, respect for the POV of others should be an important aspect of our conversation.

At the same time we should all remember we are here to stretch our thinking and continue to progress, so it is important not to take the conversation too personally... don’t take my thought process as criticism of your life choices.

With all this in mind, join us to talk about organic learning, radical unschooling, TCS, non-coercive parenting, alternative lifestyles and other non-traditional points of view...
