Adam, ours has a backing plate, I would imagine to spread the load. Good luck.. Frank & Emily Elixir 1975 N28 ________________________________ From: adam

Subject: [Newport Sailboats] N28 cockpit drains and transom

Hello, I am the new owner of a 1975 n28, and had a couple questions regarding the transom. I have read a few things about the cockpit filling with water when underway due to the drains in the cockpit. I did experience this on our test run. I have a couple of plugs I can put in when underway, but I wanted to know any other solutions people have come up with.

Also, I wanted to install a folding ladder on the transom. Should I thru bolt to a plate on the inside of the transom or can I simply screw the ladder mounts to the back of the boat?

      Thank You,
      Adam
