      Rides:

A reminder that there are two rides on Saturday - 7 Sept.:

      • Bernard will be leading the last of this years scheduled New Newham Rides. Departs Stratford Station (Meridian Sq) 10.30 am).

      • Anil will be leading a Roding and Epping Ride of about 40 miles.  Meet 9.00am Stratford Circus for a ride up the Roding Valley to Greensted Church (a Saxon timbered church) for a picnic stop there.  Then across to Copped Hall (a Georgian mansion near Epping under restoration) and back via a drinks stop at High Beach to finish at the Theatre Royal Stratford. Some off road but doable with a road bike.
      News
      • ....and very good news too.  Newham has made the shortlist for its "mini-Holland" proposal.  One of 8 boroughs in line to receive a share in £100m funding.  This means that it will now work up its detailed proposal. Sir Robin Wales announced in the Newham Recorder in July that this would involve consultation with Newham cyclists.

      • We have received a response from Newham Council to our representations on Temple Mills Lane East.  Whilst not offering any firm promises it includes the statement that "we are currently in the process of reviewing all of the roads within the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park (QEOP) in terms of the provision of cycle infrastructure, and infrastructure for all road users, with the aim of creating an improvement plan that reflects the needs of Newham residents and implementing better standards of design where possible, including use of the forthcoming revised London Cycle Design Standards, due to be published in early 2014."  This is positive given the sub-optimal provision that LLDC are leaving as thier legacy.

      • If you want to nominate for the rail cycle awards please see http://cycle-rail.co.uk/

      • A reminder that this week sees the inaugural meeting of the Friends of the Greenwich and Woolwich Foot Tunnels (Fogwoft) Thursday 5th Sept at 7.00pm at the 10 Centre, Tarves Way Greenwich.
