For those who also have a sporting interest in cycling, if you didn't
already know, the first pro Tour of Britain to be held for 5 years
starts today. It's a five day stage race, the last stage being held
around Westminster on Sunday. I'll lead an easy ride there but
haven't quite decided on a meeting time yet so will let you know.
Meeting place will be the usual top of the Green Bridge, Mile End
Anyway, to get you in the mood for the excitement on Sunday, follow
the action on http://www.cyclingnews.com/
or the Tour of Britain site
above or your cycling news site of choice. There are some big teams
and big names taking part notably:
Bradley Wiggins - no rest for him after his 3 Olympic medals. If
you've been to Herne Hill Velodrome for the Good Friday races then
you'll have seen him in action there. I should think he'll be taking
it relatively easy but it'll be great to cheer him on after his
successes in Athens.
Roger Hammond - 3rd in this year's Paris-Roubaix, British National
Champion and will be riding in Lance Armstrong's team next year. A
good bet for a home winner.
Jeremy Hunt - sprinter and rides in the same team as Hammond.
plus there are GB, Scottish, Welsh and Irish national squads.
Andreas Kloden - 2nd in this year's Tour de France and therefore a
Jose Azevedo - 5th in this year's Tour de France
Tom Boonen - Tour stage winner plus a few other one day races
Axel Merckx - bronze in the Olympic road race
Michele Bartoli - winner of loads of big one day races
plus many more seasoned pros
