- Lots of talk about using distilled water being bandied around at
present. What I have found is distilled water that you can buy from
your local supermarket or chemical supplier is not pure H2O. ie it
is not tasteless, odourless. It is colourless but thats about it! It
tastes like the water that I run through my still. Distilled, sure,
but tainted with the flavours of the metal, flux etc that your still
is made out of. Even demineralised water has an unpleasant flavour.
Theoretically distilled water should be pure H20 but many of my
scientest friends swear by filtered water. When poured, it looks
like liquid diamonds. Crystal clear, and tasteless. Bottled drinking
water is best to use for diluting spirit. I believe that most good
bottled water is filtered and has a very low mineral content. The
stuff I buy says it has none. My kids say it tastes like "nothing".
The perfect mixer I think.
