What I'm basically settling for now is a rate just less than flat out. To
my tastes, i cant spot much difference between it and something done a lot
slower. Running it as fast as possible though means that you have to
always be watching it, and constantly adjusting. By having a slighlty
higher reflux ratio, it means that you dont need to fiddle it quite so
often, and only needs checking every 15-20 minutes (for most of the run -
needs more frequent at the end). It gives a bit more slack in the system.
I guess its around 30 mL/min (off 1800W) ?
Similarly around the tastes, I cant spot the difference between a 20 min
column equilibriation and a 2 hour + one. So I take the shorter one -
provided the temperatures have dropped right back, and then sat there for a
wee while, I'm happy to start doing the main run.
comments anyone ? (in particular Mike ?)
